We have an increasing number of Green councillors in the region. This gives us more opportunity than ever to influence our local councils' approaches to LGBT issues. The time is right to focus on how they respond to new legislation preventing discrimination in goods and services on grounds of sexual orientation.

Our Manifesto for a Sustainable Society opens with a clear, philosophical commitment to tackling all forms of discrimination: 'A healthy society is based on voluntary co-operation between empowered individuals in a democratic society, free from discrimination whether based on race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, religion, social origin or any other prejudice.'
