Autumn Conference 2011 in Sheffield
The autumn conference in Sheffield this year was home to the LGBT Green AGM. Eighteen delegates attended and discussed the groups activities over the past year and plans for the year ahead.
Some of the highlights of the last year were as follows:
- Launching a LGBT-specific manifesto launch for the local elections in March 2011
- Regular, responsive media work around domestic and international LGBT issues
- High-profile float presence at Brighton Pride with participation from Caroline Lucas and Peter Tatchell
- Updating of policies
Work by the international officer included:
- Supporting amnesty for LGBTQ asylum seekers and those threatened with deportation.
- Forging links with LGBTQ campaigners abroad.
- Helping to fight against the Ugandan bill by promoting the All Out petition.
Plans going forward include the following:
- To build up membership of LGBT Greens group
- Support members around the country in LGBT-related events
- Setup a Twitter feed
- Organise meetings in different regions, hopefully with local speakers to discuss topical LGBT issues.
- Revisiting supporting leaflets, etc.
