Call for Bob Marshall-Andrews to apologise London 10 November 2005 Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews has been condemned over allegations that he homophobically abused another Labour MP, Jim Dowd, calling him a "faggot".
The Evening Standard (9 November 2005) reported that the anti-gay insult was made during a row between the two MPs over the government's anti-terror legislation.
"Homophobic abuse is just as offensive as racist abuse," said Peter Tatchell of the gay human rights group OutRage!
"It is unacceptable, especially from an MP."
"Calling someone a 'faggot' is like calling them a 'yid' or a 'paki'.
It is disgraceful, bigoted language.
"Any MP who used anti-Semitic insults would be forced to apologise. We also expect an apology from any MP who resorts to homophobic abuse.
"If these allegations are true, Bob Marshall-Andrews owes the gay community an explanation and an apology," said Mr Tatchell.
