In reflection from the comments Reverend Peter Mullen that homosexuals should have their backsides tattooed with the slogan: "Sodomy can seriously damage your health," the City of London, Church of England priest has issued a "full and complete apology" for his remarks. Rev Mullen's apology reads:

"I was not actually meaning to criticise individual homosexual persons, but the promoters of gay culture..."

In responding to Revd Mullen's comments, Phelim Mac Cafferty, LGBTGreens Media officer stated:

"So the Reverend claims that he doesn't want to offend gay men but wants to offend people who 'promote' gay culture- whatever that is. Revd Mullen is skating on thin ice- this is a man who called for the outlawing of Gay Pride festivals, which he called 'obscene'. The fact that he used the notorious word 'promote' - that word we associate most readily with Section 28- speaks volumes about his attitude.

"There should be no get-out clauses for religious ministers of any faith to propagate hate against LGBT people. Neither should there be space in the 21st century for people of any faiths and none to use their beliefs to hide from the law. LGBT Greens argued and continue to argue that religious organisations should be included under the Sexual Orientation regulations of 2003."

Meanwhile, LGBTGreens Parliamentary Candidate for Vauxhall, Joseph Healy, from LGBTGreens in the capital stated: "there is no place for Reverand Peter Mullen's homophobia in London. Perhaps if this churchman had attended more to the moral duties of his congregation in the City and pandered less to their prejudices, we might now not be in the financial and economic mess we are in."
