Green Group anticipates another fantastic Brighton Pride paradeGreen Group Anticipate another Fantastic Brighton Pride Parade

Members of the Green Group of councillors are looking forward participating in this Saturday's Pride event. Convenor Bill Randall commented:

"We're delighted to be part of the parade and festival park once again.

Pride gives Brighton and Hove the opportunity to celebrate its diversity with thousands of visitors from the UK and around the world. I look forward to a wonderful day' and I thank the organisers for working round the clock to pull together such an enormously important annual event for the city' all its citizens and the local economy."

Equalities spokesperson Cllr Vicky Wakefield-Jarrett added:

"Saturday is going to be a big celebration for the LGBT community and offers a chance for people of all backgrounds to get involved and enjoy themselves. Pride in general is important for raising wider awareness of issues affecting LGBT equality and it is great time and time again to see it so well-received.

"It's particularly important though' things are likely to become particularly difficult over the next few years for everyone employed by or using public sector services. Pride will showcase a number of voluntary sector organisations' who provide essential' specialised support to residents of our city' and yet are facing a period of great financial uncertainty and potential closure of services.

"With the inevitability of increased privatisation of public sector services' Greens will be keeping a watchful eye to ensure that contractors uphold the expected standards and commitment to equal opportunity as set out in the citywide Equalities & Human Rights

Charter* and the council's Equalities & Inclusion Policy."
