Gibraltar flagThe original ECHR ruling which was made back in 1990 has been ignored but not forgotten' The South west of England Green Party's spokesperson on LGBTIQ issues is urging again that the Governments of both the UK and Gibraltar start to recognise their legal responsibilities and bring in the bill of equalisation which failed to make the statute books back in June 2009.

Speaking on this issue the spokesperson Ryan Cleminson had this to say:

"I find it utterly absurd that the lgbtiq community in Gibraltar have had to wait 20 years for any meaningful bill to come forward' and they are still waiting. Its about time Peter Caruana stopped playing games by referring the  matter to the courts and did what he promises to do' Which is give the Gibraltar lgbt community the rights they want and frankly deserve. It also doesn't help that the UK government have known for 20 years that they needed to do something about this and haven't."

Further to the above'

Ryan said "I urge the Europe Minister and the Foreign Office to once and for all make clear to Peter Caruana that his systematic delays on equality in the age of consent for gay Gibraltarians are neither acceptable to HMG nor to the European Court of Human Rights. Whether Mr Caruana likes it or not' and due to the failure of his government to definitively pass legislation to guarantee equality (and not merely discuss it in the Gibraltar Parliament)' it is now time for Gordon Brown to walk the talk and put in place without further delay the Human Rights Courts' clear demand for equality in this area' as little faith can be had in Mr Caruana's good will."
