The Spokesperson for the LGBT South West Greens and the South west Green Party has today released a statement of support for the newly created LGBT pressure-group 'Kaleidoscope''
saying: "We welcome and support the project and its work and are keen to support them in any way we can.
We realise that the homophobic abuses that continue in many Middle Eastern and African countries represent a severe breach of human rights and it is therefore vitally important that more open and democratic societies maintain constant vigilance to protect universal human rights and values."
Recently' the South West Green Party LGBT group have been involved in the asylum case of 24 year old Bristol-based Alvin Gahimbaze and have managed to win him the right to stay here for five years' at which point he can apply for indefinite leave to remain.
SW LGBT spokesperson Ryan Cleminson said "We had to get involved as we couldn't sit back and allow Alvin to be deported back to Burundi' where he would have faced almost certain torture and or death at the hands of the repressive government.
I would urge the UK Foreign Office to act and send out a strong message to the effect that LGBT rights are fundamental and that we deplore any persecution and discrimination towards any individual with regard their sexual orientation.
The Green Party' with its unequivocal stance on social justice policies' is clear on its support of lLGBT rights and issues; we wholeheartedly support 'Kaleidoscope' and wish them well'.
