Stop smash and grab raid on charity fundingIn a press statement released today by the LGBT South West Green Party and the South West Green Party their spokesperson Ryan Cleminson has delivered a message to Ministers in Whitehall and Central Government to stop their "Smash and Grab Raid" on charities that work with the vulnerable.

In the statement Ryan Cleminson said:

"In Bournemouth we have seen funding removed from services such as the Local AIDS/HIV charity Dorset Body Positive who have had 27% of their funding removed due to the cuts' I find this wrong and unacceptable. They have been forced to close on a Friday due to the cuts' the message being given in my view by the Government is "You can get HIV/AIDS but don't expect any help" and that is a betrayal of the people."

Richard Erven from Dorset Body Positive said:

"The substantial reduction in funding received this year has caused considerable difficulties for a number of our service users. Having been forced to close on Fridays has immediately reduced access by 20% which' for many of those who depend on us' is a significant and for some traumatic experience. We are fortunate to have the support of the LGBT South West Green Party and the South West Green Party and are appreciative of their work on our behalf."

The Area has also seen funding of Space Youth Project cut which has left Bournemouth without the excellent lgbtq youth group and its core funding slashed as well as councils cut their budgets forced by the Government. Again Ryan deemed this as "A grave mistake and an attack on the vulnerable in society".

Helen Walsh the Project Manager for Space Youth Project said: "The lack of financial support for local provisions providing services to marginalised communities will have a long term negative effect on future local budgets but more importantly on the happiness and well-being of the people who used them. I think trying to balance the books in this way is short-sighted and dangerous."

Ryan Cleminson concluded:

If the Government want to find money maybe they should find the strength and take on the bonus culture and also get companies such as Vodafone to pay their taxes' David Cameron says he wants big society and Ed Milliband wants fairness well how is a cut to charities that support the vulnerable fair?"
