Green Councillors in historic meeting with the trans communityGreen Party Councillors in Brighton and Hove, including the Leader of the Council, Bill Randall, have held historic talks with representatives of the trans community organisations in the city- FTM Brighton and The Clare Project [1]

FTM Brighton and the Clare project provide invaluable support and advocacy for the trans community in Brighton and Hove and are recognised for their work throughout the country.

Nick Douglas, member of FTM Brighton said:

"We were pleased to be invited, alongside the Clare Project, to meet with Bill and Phelim to discuss our concerns. We are increasingly worried about the way trans people appear to be marginalised from the political processes in the city and appreciated a chance to raise the issues. The discussion was really productive and we look forward to taking some promising proposals forward."

Councillor Bill Randall stated:

"We look forward to working with the trans community to help find solutions to the problems they face and the prejudice they have to deal with"

Councillor Phelim Mac Cafferty, National Spokesperson of LGBTGreens added:

"The Count Me in Too Survey starkly highlighted just a snapshot of some of the immense difficulties faced by the trans community not only in accessing services but in having the accountable and fair public services in Brighton and Hove that they deserve.

"The barbaric murder of Andrea Waddell in Brighton and Hove only a few years ago must serve to remind everyone in our city of the completely unacceptable prejudice faced by the trans community.

"These are just some of the many reasons why it is so important for the Green Administration of Brighton and Hove City Council to be in dialogue with the trans community.

"We had productive discussions with the fantastic trans community organisations- FTM Brighton and the Clare Project and drew up a work programme to ensure that we move to a Council which will proactively battle transphobia and work as hard as it can to ensure its services are fair and accessible to the trans community. The Green Party are today again proud to show our support for the trans community."
